Didn't Every Army Need Chariots?
Not every army had chariots because they couldn't afford them. Even though they all wanted them. If you didn't have chariots you would have to be well prepared in battle. If I didn't have a chariot in a war I would probably chicken out! If you did have chariots in your army you we considered lucky. Chariot could be built, but that would take a long time to build.
Customized Chariots
Kings and Queens rode in special chariots. Special chariots were bigger and safer with more people in them protecting the King and Queen. Kings and Queens also fought in battle. They usually shot arrows and don't throw spears. Kings and Queens were very wealthy so they could have people make them any type of chariot they want. If i was that rich i would have the coolest chariot ever!
How Chariots Help in Battle
Chariots were the most helpful weapons in Battle in ancient Egypt. They were used to break down enemy lines. Chariots where pulled by two horses. Army men stood in the chariots and shoot arrows and threw spears. Army men would put spikes on the wheels of the chariots so if someone got close their legs would get cut off. If i was in one of these battles, I would stay clear of chariots because I want to keep both of my legs. The metal pole connecting the chariot with the horses weren't very sturdy. So for the enemies, that is were you want to try to hit with your sword. If you broke that bar then the chariot would not move because the horses would not be connected to the chariot. If that happened, there really wouldn't be any point of a chariot.
The Most Famous Chariot Battle
There were a lot of chariot battles, but the most famous one was between Ramses the 2nd and the Hittite Empire. Ramses army was using bronze weapons and Hittite army was were using iron. Iron was harder and sharper than bronze, so honestly, i don't think that is fair! Surprisingly the battle came to a draw. How does that happen if one army has harder and sharper weapons? This battle was taken place in Egypt. When they each called it a draw they went there separate ways and never tried to finish off the battle.

The Hyksos rage through Egypt!
The Hyksos had a very successful army. They had much power, and wealth. But what weapon did they use to take over Egypt so easily? The weapon was a chariot. Chariots are pulled by two horses. Army men sit in chariots so it is easy to attack enemies. Chariots are fast and easy to maneuver. They are like modern day cars, but chariots were pulled by horses! Chariots were used to break enemies lines of forces. Hyksos army was very wealthy and so were chariots, that's why most armies back then did not have chariots. Chariots were easy to drive so if they had enough of them, younger kids could also drive them with an older person shooting arrows on the back. I want to be an Egyptian kid so i could drive a chariot, that would be so cool! The Egyptians didn't have chariots during this battle so they had no way to take down the enemy forces. The Hyksos army men were more prepared and trained for this battle. The Egyptian army was not ready for this battle. That would stink to have an army unsuspectingly show up and try to kill you!
